Summer Fun Book Report

Title of Book:THE GOLDEN COMPAS
Author:Philip Pullman
This book has 399 pages.I am now on page 141.
This week I read 40 pages.
I understand about 75% of what I read.
1. Choose two of the characters in the book that you are reading and compare how they are similar and contrast how they are different.
Lyra:A terrible childhood with too many professors in Jordan College,Oxford. She never see her parents and nobody take care of her,so it makes her become a naughty, underbred girl. But she will save the whole world...
Lord Asriel:Lyra's uncle,a man who treats Lyra very bad, always with a serious face,he is an ambitious, unfeeling person, crazy about the scientific research and exploring.
they have the similar character, the feeling they give me is both they solve problems are very different with others or their behavior are very strange. However, they love to find new things from the world, they both like exploring.
2. Why did you choose these two people? Are you similar to either one of them? How are you similar? How are you different?
Because I want to be an active people,I think Lyra is.She seems energetic everyday, always find some crafty ideas to make fun with those professors and she know what is correct and incorrect. Her uncle Lord Asriel is a serious man,but he is very ambitious and dispassionate.
I think I'm energetic and I want to be a sober man,so I choose them.

Nalley's food plant closes in Tacoma, workers try to move on(By Sanjay Bhatt)

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/businesstechnology/2015848440_nalley08.html

Summary:
Nalley has set up her own food company and it was successful in the past, but last month this plant closed, they lost its namesake and the region lost 160 stable,middle-class jobs.
However, many people who were employed by these company disagree about it,they has been working here for 38 years,it is a big shock to the system.
History about this company was good, but decline these years because the new plant's owner make the products cheaper and cheaper, then they are useless.however, workers got a "trade adjustment assistance."everybody can got $22,000 for training for a new career. It wasn't a good choice because it's too bad to accept a new job so less than half of eligible workers will use it.
They are moving to lowa, the governor of lowa support them, they think the company can be better because the new environment for the company is better than before and also lowa can earn some interest from it.
Although the company will move, some workers can't do that. Also there are some blame about that.
Personal response:
I think if a company can't insist on managing,it's better to move because when they can't do that any more, one is go bankrupt, another one is change. This company isn't as well as before,so they can restart, when they move, the environment has changed, the people have changed, everything have changed,so why not move and develop?
